Go Goa Gone poster

Go Goa Gone = Left 4 Dead

It has been a trend lately that I end up liking movies I go to watch without any expectations at all. It just goes to show how unpredictable this movie watching business can be. Watching Go Goa Gone was such an experience.

I should say that I am not a fan of the zombie genre. I have enjoyed some of the zom-coms I have seen in the past and that is the only attraction I had to this movie. That is to say, not much. In fact, I was going to skip it until I read some of the reviews and decided to go for it.

And man, did it turn out to be a laugh-fest. Really well done! The movie is an amalgamation of almost all of the zombie movies I have seen (and no doubt, some movies I have not seen), of course, but that doesn’t make it boring. I can’t remember any other recent movie where I laughed so hard throughout the movie.

The movie is fairly well paced. It starts with a scene strangely reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead. Two of the protagonists of the story are shown in a vegetative, zombie-like state watching TV, and not even lifting a finger to change the channel.

The story goes on with both of their lives going down the drain and then they decide to take a roadtrip to Goa. They go on to a rave party allegedly organized by Russian mafia when a drug starts turning people into zombies (almost every zombie movie story). Clearly, this is not important, as all such plot-lines are weak. Nobody cares how the zombies came about. Lets start killing them!

The movie is littered with abusive and hilarious jokes. Very soon, the movie turns into its gory self with the entry of Boris – played by Saif Ali Khan. Very soon, the movie turns out to be the gameplay of Left 4 Dead, with the classical assortment of three guys and a girl.

What do we know? What have we learnt?

This is possibly my favourite dialogue throughout the run of the movie. This gets repeated at various points in the movie and the timing is great.

I rate this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. I will not write much more here and just say go watch it, if you haven’t already. And yes, don’t take your brains – zombies eat brains.

Well i have not seen this movie, although i am big fan of Zombie movies like Shaun of the Dead, Tucker and dale vs Evil ,Zombieland etc. Although this concept is quite common in Hollywood but its fresh for audience of Indian cinema. Its good that Saif Ali Khan chose to make a Zombie comedy rather than a serious movie on this subject. Thanks for the review.

True. It was good to see something new in Bollywood for a change. Even if it can be said to be copied, they did a good job on the movie, which matters more.
